Key takeaways from the Data Community Conference 2024

On November 26, 2024, the Data Community Conference brought together over 110 professionals in Bern to explore the latest advancements in data platforms and infrastructures. This highly anticipated event powered by Sequotech delivered a day rich in insights and innovation, reaffirming its position as a key gathering in the data world.

Diverse and inspiring topics

With 16 sessions and 2 keynotes, the conference covered a wide range of topics, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, CI/CD pipelines, and more. Among the highlights, Ivan Mariblanca Flinch’s keynote, "Green IT: Opportunities and Challenges for Companies," shed light on the challenges of digital pollution and the first steps toward building a sustainable Green IT strategy. At the end of the day, André Delafontaine’s keynote, "Mental Health: Predicting and Measuring Accidents and Recoveries," offered practical tools for assessing and improving mental health in the workplace, a critical topic in the post-COVID era.

Generative AI for the enterprise

Generative AI was a major focus of the conference, particularly in Hendrik Walter’s (avency) session on the secure and effective use of these technologies with VARIOS AI (formerly Secure AI Broker). Hendrick demonstrated how to balance innovation, productivity, and data protection while adhering to stringent security standards. Another engaging moment was Dani Schnider and Andrea Kennel’s session, "Does ChatGPT Write Better SQL Than Humans?" The presentation compared ChatGPT’s performance to that of an SQL expert, offering valuable insights into AI’s role in programming.
