Meeting with David Schlosser, System Engineer at exxo

David Schlosser, skilled System Engineer at exxo, opens up about his comprehensive role, from managing IT projects to providing technical support and strategic advice. He emphasizes understanding client needs, efficient project realization, and adapting to new technology. Schlosser's passion for the constantly evolving IT field, coupled with his dedication to innovative solutions and client collaboration, highlights his expertise and enthusiasm.

Can you explain your role, your tasks, and choose three words that characterize them?

As a project manager, I implement IT projects of various sizes for our numerous clients. My scope of duties covers both the administrative (planning, coordination, communication) and the operational aspects of a project (design, implementation, testing, and introduction).

As a systems engineer, I support our clients with technical questions and problems (helpdesk), maintain their IT infrastructure, and advise them on planned upgrades, expansions, and migrations.

Three words:

  1. Recognize The first and most important part of my work is to meet the clients where they are and understand their needs. It's not just about what the client wants, but also how I can support them in achieving their goals efficiently and sustainably.

  2. Realize The timely and complete implementation of client projects is at the centre of my work as a systems engineer. This requires organizational talent, communication skills, and sometimes a bit of diplomacy.

  3. Adapt The constantly changing technology requires a rapid adaptation to new challenges, creative thinking, and the openness to explore new ways to find efficient solutions.

What do you prefer about your job?

What I enjoy the most is the constant evolution of the IT field, which makes my work varied and enriching. Collaborating with clients from different sectors, each with their own challenges, keeps me dynamic and committed. I particularly appreciate projects that require creative solutions and innovative thinking.

What advice would you give to new recruits?

Be curious. The field of IT, and particularly our environment at exxo, offers a fertile ground for learning and personal and professional development. An open mind and the willingness to explore new avenues are essential.

If you had an Alladin’s lamp, what wishes would you make?

More harmony: We should work together for a better future instead of fighting against each other for our own interests.

What are your passions?

Scuba diving is my dominant passion. It allows me to recharge and find peace in the silence and beauty of the underwater world. The diversity of marine life is a constant source of wonder for me, and when I'm not working or doing CrossFit, I'm searching for the best diving spots around the globe.

Do you have a book to recommend?

I highly recommend "The Swarm" by Frank Schätzing, a fascinating thriller where marine nature rebels against humanity. This well-researched and brilliantly narrated book immerses the reader in the depths of the oceans, prompting reflection on our environmental impact while inducing a bit of fear. It's a must-read for anyone interested in scientific and ecological thrillers.
